When I was much younger, someone wise said to me, “If you worry about money when you’re making $1,000 a year, then you will also worry about it when you make $100,000 a year.”

At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the concept, but I understood enough to know that “worrying” about money is a habit of THOUGHT.

In other words, the process of worrying doesn’t help to generate more money.  In fact, I would argue that it hinders money from flowing.

Why?

Because when you are in a state of worry, you are constricting the creative pathways in your brain.

You are literally cutting off any good ideas that are flowing to you.

You’re cutting off good ideas that make more money.

And so it’s one thing to say, “don’t worry,” and it’s another thing to do DO it – to stop worrying. 

HOW do you do that?

Limiting Beliefs Definition

Limiting beliefs are thoughts, opinions that one believes to be the absolute truth. They tend to harm one’s life by stopping them from moving forward and growing on a personal and professional level.

Money blocks fall into the category of a limiting belief.

 

Limiting Beliefs versus Empowering Beliefs

Empowering Beliefs are beliefs we have about ourselves which are helpful, positive, and accurate. Empowering Beliefs give us power because they affect our thoughts, feelings, and actions. They help us to take positive action and feel good about ourselves.

Positive Mantras and Affirmations are empowering beliefs.

 

What are Money Blocks?

Money blocks tend to be the result of negative attitudes towards money.

They are typically learned from parents, relatives, friends, the church, and other places you spent a lot of time throughout your childhood. While you learned these attitudes about money from other people, you can change your mindset around money and abundance.

The blocks tend to take several forms. Whether it be negative thoughts about people who have plenty of money, fear surrounding having lots of money, or the effect money can have on your relationships. Thoughts like these can lead to you not earning what you are worth.

Having these money blocks can result in never being able to meet your dream money goal, feeling guilty for having to charge a client, or the irresponsible use of money. 

Overcoming these limiting beliefs about money can help you to attract prosperity into your life and business.

While you won’t be able to clear the blocks away in one day, you can start chipping away by using specific techniques that will help you to attract the flow of positive energy and abundance.

 

Limiting Beliefs Examples

These are some of the most common limiting beliefs around money that hold people back:

  • It’s Not My Responsibility” …
  • “I Am Not Good Enough” …
  • “I Am Not Good With Money” …
  • “It’s Better To Give Than To Receive” …
  • “I Just Don’t Attract That Kind Of Good Fortune” …
  • Money Or Wealth Is Bad Or Unethical”

When developing a wealth mindset, thoughts and affirmations become vitally important.

Whatever you affirm, becomes your truth regarding money.

Negative thoughts and negative talk about your money make for an impoverished you.

 

A 6 Step Process to Releasing Money Blocks

This is a process I learned from one of my money mentors Diana Wilde at www.danawilde.com

1.Decide

 Make a decision that you want to give up worrying.  Make a decision that you’re going to be aware of and catch yourself when you’ve wandered down the “thought bunny trail” of worry.

2.Bust Yourself

When you catch yourself worrying, pause and reset.  Sometimes we beat ourselves up when we have negative thoughts, but I want you to CELEBRATE when you catch yourself thinking a negative thought or worrying.

Say to yourself, “Good for me.  I caught this, and I’m going to pause and reset. I recognize that I’m thinking worrying thoughts, and it’s generating a feeling of worry, and I’m going to shift this right now.”

3.Breathe

Take a few seconds to take a few big, long, slow, deep breaths.  As you breathe in and feel your lungs filling with air, think of a “power word” like “ALLOW” or “ABUNDANCE.”  As you exhale, imagine yourself releasing negativity.

4.Soothe Yourself

 Find soothing words.  Try words like …
“It’s okay.  I’ve worried in the past, and things have worked out.  This too shall pass.”
“I want to relax around this issue because I want to use my best brain and so I’m breathing and relaxing.”
“I like that I can calm my thoughts and soothe my emotions, and I’m doing it now.”

You can even say the sentence, “I’m feeling better already” over and over again, and you will feel an emotional shift.

5.Feel Hopeful

If you can think thoughts that generate a feeling of “hope,” then you really start to feel better!  My favorite trick for this is to say a bunch of sentences that all begin with “I hope”.  For example …

I hope I start to feel better.
I hope I shift my thinking.
I hope something extraordinary happens out of the blue.
I hope I stay on the brain training path.
I hope I get past this quickly.
… and so on.

6.Practice and Notice

Keep practicing!  You will get good at busting yourself and shifting your thoughts, which then moves your emotions.  As you continue to do this, notice the results you get.

After a few days of practicing and getting yourself to a hopeful, more positive state of mind, your Reticular Activating System kicks in, and you’ll start to notice opportunities in your “outside world” that you didn’t see before.

The more you practice, the better you get at finding the words that help you shift your emotions.

The more you practice, the more you start to see the correlation between the thoughts you’re thinking and the results you’re getting.

Using Money Affirmations for Clearing Limiting Beliefs about Money 

Every word you think or speak is an affirmation.

Affirmations are declarations, observations about you and the world around you. The concept seems simple enough until you realize that what you affirm, positive or negative, is what you internalize and make a part of your reality.

Suddenly that statement you made last week to friends about how broke you are isn’t so innocuous, huh?

You can change the way money shows up in your life though, simply by using daily positive affirmations and/or mantras.

Eventually, these positive thoughts, words, and feelings will replace the negative self-talk you’ve had for so long. 

Affirmations work because they replace the ideas and beliefs that you’ve held for years by replacing them with new statements, that define you in every aspect of your life.

That is why it’s so important to use positive affirmations in your life, at every opportunity. That’s especially true for the behavior you want to change, or in how you wish to feel about yourself.

Take control of your story, decide to be brave, confident, and successful.

Write down all the negative thoughts about money that go round and round in your head. Make a list, and for every disempowering thought write an empowering positive one. 

 

Examples of Money Affirmations

What are some positive affirmations regarding a wealth mindset that you can use instead? Try saying these things:

 

  • I practice good habits that will lead me to success.
  • My intellect is sufficient to lead me to untold wealth.
  • I have what I need to live the life that I want.
  • I believe abundance is available for everyone.
  • My actions are positive and designed to increase my wealth daily.
  • I see opportunities where others do not.
  • I deserve the wealth I desire.
  • I am comfortable asking for help from mentors for what I need.
  • I already have everything I need to become wealthy.
  • I find connections and know-how to leverage my resources.

 

By repeating these phrases at every opportunity, you create a habit of thinking positively about money.

These affirmations become powerful in rewiring your feelings about wealth and money, and will then subconsciously begin to guide you in ways to make these words a reality.

Affirmations have a way of making what you say come true. Stay positive and make bold statements about yourself and what you’re out to accomplish. Only then will you seize wealth and leave poverty behind.

Last Thoughts

The only way to cross the invisible line from feeling unworthy of money to feel powerful and capable of great abundance is to change the internal dialog.

Instead of repeating patterns of thought telling you why you can’t have abundance, you flip the switch.

You spend time every day reprogramming those internal tapes. When an old disempowering message begins to play, you train yourself to switch it to a positive.

Rewriting your narrative can knock your fears on the head once and for all. If you see yourself as a competent, successful person, those niggles of self-doubt, that negative self-talk won’t be able to get a toe-hold.

Slowly but surely you forge a new path. A new way of thinking. A new internal dialog.

Instead of being your own worst enemy, you become your own cheerleader. It is in that moment that everything in your life changes.
