  1. I think that it takes a while to determine just how askew our thinking has really become from using drugs and alcohol and discounting the way we feel, and suppressing our emotions. Our disconnect from self for decades has caused a disconnect from reality. We process things differently than normally developed people do, so when we do experience a cognitive distortion, we need to accept the fact that we can’t always trust our conclusions.

    1. I would totally agree with you that a person in the throes of addiction has “addicted” thought processes that are not the same as “normal” however the positive take on this is that normal, positive and connected thought processes can return after recovery from addiction.
